Terms of service
Last updated 11 August 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and Andrew Bannister, trading as slvnt Ledger (“we”, “us”), for the use of the service. By creating an account you accept them. If you do not, please do not use the service.
1. What the service is
Ledger is a personal finance tool. You upload bank and credit card statements as PDF or CSV files; it extracts the transactions, records them once you have reviewed them, and models your finances — categories, recurring bills, projections and budgets.
Ledger does not connect to your bank. There is no open banking integration and we never ask for your banking credentials. Everything comes from files you provide.
2. Ledger is not financial advice
Ledger is a record-keeping and planning tool. Nothing it shows you — a projection, a safe-to-spend figure, a budget, a payoff schedule — is financial, investment, tax or legal advice, and none of it is a recommendation to take or not take any action. We are not authorised to give financial advice and do not do so. Decisions about your money remain yours, and you should take professional advice where it matters.
3. Accuracy, and what we do not promise
This clause matters more than the rest, so it is written plainly.
Reading a statement is never perfect. Bank layouts change, PDFs are awkward, and a parser can misread a line. Ledger is built around that fact rather than against it: nothing is recorded until you have reviewed it, every statement is checked arithmetically before you are asked to commit it, and every recorded transaction points back at the line it came from so you can check it against the original.
That does not make the figures guaranteed. We do not warrant that any extracted transaction, balance, category, projection or total is accurate or complete. Your bank's own statements are the authoritative record of your finances, and you should treat them as such. You are responsible for reviewing what Ledger extracts before relying on it.
4. Your account
- You must be at least 16 years old and able to enter into a contract.
- Give an email address you control, and keep your password to yourself.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has access to it.
- We will never ask you for your password, by email or by any other means. Treat anyone who does as an impostor.
- One account per person. Do not share an account.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Upload documents belonging to someone else without their permission.
- Attempt to access another user's data, or to probe, scan or test our systems.
- Interfere with the service, or place an unreasonable load on it.
- Use it for anything unlawful, or to launder or conceal the proceeds of crime.
- Resell the service, or scrape it in bulk.
If you find a security problem, please tell us at slvnt.ledger@outlook.com before telling anyone else. We will not pursue anyone who reports a genuine issue in good faith and does not access or destroy other people's data.
6. Your content stays yours
The statements you upload and the data you enter are yours. You grant us only the permission needed to run the service for you — storing, processing and displaying that data back to you. We claim no other rights over it, and we do not use it to train anything that leaves our servers.
7. Plans and payment
Ledger has a free tier and a paid tier. The free tier limits volume — the number of accounts, the number of statement uploads a month, and how far ahead projections run — but never correctness. Every calculation the free tier performs is the same calculation the paid tier performs.
Billing is not currently live. Nothing on this site or in the application takes a payment today. When it does, prices and billing terms will be stated before you are asked to pay for anything, checkout will be operated by a payment provider, and we will never hold your card details.
If a paid plan lapses
A downgrade is read-only, never destructive. If a subscription ends, everything you created stays, and stays readable. We do not delete data, hide data, or reclaim anything over a free-tier limit. Only creating beyond the free limits is refused — if you hold eight accounts and drop to the free tier, you keep all eight and are simply prevented from adding a ninth.
We also do not reclaim data from inactive accounts. If that ever has to change, it would come with advance notice and the ability to export everything first.
8. Availability
We aim to keep Ledger available and will give notice of planned maintenance where we reasonably can. We do not offer a service level guarantee, and the service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. Features may be added, changed or withdrawn.
Keep your own copies of your statements. We take backups, but Ledger is not an archive of record and should not be your only copy of anything.
9. Ending it
You can stop using Ledger and ask us to delete your account at any time. Deletion removes your statements, transactions, budgets and projections along with your account record, as described in the privacy statement.
We may suspend or close an account that breaches clause 5, or where we are required to by law. Except where the breach makes it impossible or unlawful, we will tell you first and give you a reasonable opportunity to export your data.
10. Liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Your statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected.
Subject to that, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost profits or lost opportunity, or for any financial decision you take on the basis of information shown in Ledger. Our total liability in any twelve-month period is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in that period and €100.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change materially affects you we will give account holders reasonable notice by email before it takes effect, and continuing to use Ledger after that date means you accept the new terms. If you do not, you may close your account and export your data.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Ireland, and the courts of Ireland have exclusive jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the EU, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory laws of the country you live in.
13. Who you are contracting with
Ledger is run by Andrew Bannister, a sole trader based in Ireland, trading as slvnt Ledger. There is no company behind it, so these terms are an agreement with an individual — said plainly because you are entitled to know who holds your bank statements before you upload them.
Everything reaches one place: slvnt.ledger@outlook.com — general enquiries, privacy and data requests, and security reports alike. One address rather than three, because three would imply three desks and there is one.
